The short version
Both Hyperliquid and dYdX chose the hardest path in DeFi perps — a fully on-chain central limit order book running on a purpose-built app-chain — and both do it well. The difference in 2026 is momentum. Hyperliquid has pulled clearly ahead on volume, open interest and market breadth, with fast execution and a strong token economy. dYdX counters with the longest track record in the category, a mature governance process and a highly decentralized Cosmos validator set.
Which should you use?
If your priority is raw liquidity, tight spreads on majors and the most active markets, Hyperliquid is the stronger venue today. If you weight battle-tested reliability, decentralization and governance more heavily, dYdX remains an excellent choice. Both are non-custodial, so you control your funds either way.
Worth noting: because Hyperliquid supports third-party builders, you can also trade its order book through front-ends like Perpmate, which add mobile, copy-trading and other tools on top of the same liquidity.
Verdict
On today's metrics, Hyperliquid leads on liquidity and volume, while dYdX wins on maturity and decentralization. Pick based on which of those matters more to your strategy.
